Birthday and Swimming

So my birthday was a busy day, but it was a good day! This birthday marked the last one in my twenties and I’m not really sure how I feel about turning 30 next year. I guess that means it’s really time to grow up… but for a little while Nate will keep me young. I pretty much act like a little kid around him.

DSC_3192_300My birthday started when Meghan, sent me this amazing GIF so I could use it as my BBM Avatar. It’s perfect, as soon as I got it I had a huge smile on my face. It was the perfect start to my birthday, and just what I needed after a tough loss on the ice that night!

We had been waiting to get Nate into the pool after the new year when he turned 6 months. Luckily we went and looked for a class when we did, as classes were starting the very next week. We quickly got him registered for his first water babies class at the Lyle Hallman pool in Kitchener.

Decked out in his swim trucks and swim shirt (which he won’t wear again since it was hard to get on and even harder to get off) he was ready to take his first dip. Thankfully they start in the warm pool, so it wasn’t too cold for him. And… he loved it! Well maybe loved isn’t the right adjective. Let’s say he didn’t hate it. Actually all the babies were enjoying themselves. They worked progressively up to doing a dunk, by dipping his chin, then the side of his face. Then it came time for a full dunk. The instructor said to make eye contact with your baby and close your mouth and they will instinctively copy you. However, Nate was more concerned with what was going on around him than looking at Meghan. So Meg did what any good mother would do… she dunk him anyways! He was a little shocked but he got over it pretty quickly. All in all it was a very successful first swim, and we look forward to the next 8 weeks.

After all the swimming we headed to Burlington to visit one of Meg’s ex co-workers at Ikea to pick up some stuff for our next house project (more on this in another post). In the 5 hours that we were out (including the driving) Nathan never made a fuss once. Not sure what Meg and I did, but Nate is just so relaxed and chill. We are so lucky!

It was a good day, and I know this next year is going to be full of lots of fun times with Nate and Meg. Can’t wait.
